This month we are featuring our behind the scenes heroes, Dee and Krissy. Dee and Krissy are our awesome office team. They keep things running and keep the lights on. Dee and Krissy are always there to pinch hit when the mall gets busy. Leaving their office duties behind, and picking up keys and radios to help customers. Take a minute to get to know them better!!!

Dee
Favorite Word: I have 2 favorite words... Kasey and Maddie (my two beautiful daughters) They are music to my ears.

Collects:  I love Christmas decorations!!  I'm a fanatic!!!

Favorite spot in the mall:  Every booth in the mall. I cannot choose just one!!!

Favorite things about working at SAM:  My fellow employees. I gained a whole new family the day I joined the team. I have such a fun time working with every single one of them!

Favorite Word: Can't print my favorite word.

Collects: I don't collect. I just buy items and start collections for others.

Favorite spot in the mall: I would say the desk is my favorite spot. I enjoy the customers and being nosey. I can find out lots of interesting tidbits about lots of different things.

Years at Southport Antique Mall: In November I will start my 18th year with the mall.

Best antiquing tip: Enjoy the hunt

Favorite things about working at SAM: SAM makes me feel like I matter. We are one big family and I enjoy going to work. Not many people can say that. Also not many people can say they are BFF with their bosses! If you want to know how I feel about the mall just ask!

Funniest work experience: There are so many funny things that happen here everyday. Here’s a few that happened recently – A guy called and had wood checkers from 1894 and they were still in bubble wrap--Lady asked if we had manual typewriters. I said yes. She asked if they were electric.

Years at Southport Antique Mall: 5 years as staff more as a dealer

Best antiquing tip: Think outside the box, then decorate the box

Favorite things about working at SAM: I just love the dealers, customers and co-workers. I love helping everyone and being part of the team.

Funniest work experience: It’s funny here everyday.

We asked Janice's Co-workers for one word to describe her: Suzy: Mighty Mouse or true friend, Max: Hard worker, Geri: Hyperactive, Alissa: Dedicated, hard-working, friend, loyal and patient. Jane: Treasured.  

You may have noticed our resident jokester Kay Anderson has been missing from the mall.  For anyone who has seen Kay for the past 16 years speed walking through the mall, scavenging through dumpsters, or being a one women moving crew it won’t be a surprise that Kay’s knees have less energy then her. After too many years of grinning and bearing it and never complaining, Kay has finally been forced to put her knees first and have knee replacement surgery. So don’t worry when you don’t see her over the next few months, she is at home recuperating from a successful surgery.

Kay is such an integral part of our Southport Antique Mall family. She brings a spirit of genuine altruism and leaves everyone she meets with a smile on their face. Kay has been dedicated to reusing and recycling long before it was the trendy thing to do; she brings this commitment to the mall by spearheading our green efforts. She is always willing to help; she keeps our egos in check with her good-natured teasing, and keeps us all laughing with her wacky Kay-isms. Get well soon and hurry back!

We will miss her a lot over the next few months; here are some of the highlights of what her mall family will miss most…

Favorite things about working at SAM: There is laughter every day.  I love the interaction with our many longtime customers, new customers, dealers and the friends I work with.

Funniest work experience: There are many, but one of the funniest is that Jim and Jane never remembered hiring me.  They say I just showed up and started telling everyone what to do.
