Serving Your Guests

Serving dishes often get overlooked when planning a party, but they can be used to add character to your party too!  This doesn’t mean that everything has to match perfectly, in fact, vintage mixed pieces are quite in style.  But, if matching is your preference, antique malls are simply overflowing with dish sets.  No matter your styles choice, vintage serving items are always a fun way to spruce up a get together and continue your style and theme throughout the entire party.

Games are a great way to entertain guests at a party.  If you are looking for some new fun to add to your old games, don’t waste your money on expensive new games when the classics are available.  A little competition can turn a party from awkward silence to fun, laughter, and mingling.

Drab to Fab: Scratched Record to Decorative Bowl

7/18/2013

When you are out vintage shopping or antiquing it's easy to find vinyl records often for as little as two dollars. It's hard to pass up your favorite LP at that price but what are you going to do with it? Record players are hard to find and it's common for LP's to be scratched and unplayable. We have an easy fix! Turn that LP into a decorative bowl!
Picture
Step One: Find a vinyl record. Try to pick an LP that has label art you like or colors that coordinate with your decor.
Step Two: Preheat your oven to 175-200 degrees. Remember you will be melting vinyl so you want to make sure that there is proper ventilation and that you have your oven mitts ready!

Step Three: Find an old* cookie sheet and an oven safe bowl that is the depth you desire your LP bowl to be. Place the bowl open side down on the center of the cookie sheet then place your record on the center of the bowl, creating a three item stack. Be sure to keep your LP centered or you will have a lopsided bowl.

*Although no vinyl should stick to the pan it's best to use one you wouldn't be upset if it did get vinyl residue on it.
Step Four: Place the stack in the pre-heated oven on a low rack. Bake for five to seven minutes checking the LP every few minutes for progress.

Step Five: When the LP is close to the shape you want put on your oven mitts and pull out your LP. The LP will still be pliable so work with the edges so that the record maintains its circular shape. Be careful to not burn yourself and remember if you don't like the shape you and just put the record back in the oven and reshape.
Step Six: Allow your awesome finished product to harden and the shape to set. Enjoy your new custom decor!

We Love a Parade

We want to thank everyone that helped make the 80's toy-themed float such a huge success. We had a great response to our float, the crowd was even chanting "Southport!" We heard a lot of folks in the crowd shouting "You're our favorite mall"  and  "We love Southport." We saw a lot of our fans and handed out thousands of promotion bags and brochures to future fans.
