The rush is on to plan a Valentine's Day that isn’t more of the same. Everyone has had that typical Valentines date, an overly hyped romantic dinner and maybe a rom com to end the evening. But who wants to do more of the same when you are trying to impress that special someone? Whether you’ve had 25 Valentines together or it is your first, you can make it uniquely special. The Southport Antique Mall (SAM) is a great place to spend any date night. It’s a wonderful way to get to know your special someone just a little better or it can work as a wonderful icebreaker. Simply walking through the mall hand-in-hand sharing memories as they are sparked by the items of our past can be a romantic and adorable way to spend your time together. Who doesn’t love looking at art and artifacts from the past? However, let’s face it, museums can be a little stuffy and have a tendency to close at five. Southport Antique Mall has your solution. We have walls covered in art from both independent and well-known artists and you can look for historical artifacts before the museums snatch them up. Furthermore, there is no other place you will get to see your loved one’s face light up when they find their favorite toy from their childhood and for that split second you get to see them experience the world how they did when they were eight, full of wonder and joy. So come on in to SAM this Valentine's Day and explore our little museum of the past and the museum that is your life. Date Night Conversation Starters

This month's drab to fab is so easy and simple, but so much fun to do by yourself or to have your children do! Everyone gives candy on Valentine's Day, so why not make it a little special by making your own gift box? It takes no time at all, a glue gun, and whatever cutesy things you have lying around the house! Welcome New Dealers! We're glad to have you as part of our Southport family! So, we are completely aware that not everyone has an affinity for Valentine’s Day. In fact, some of us are downright bitter about it (or so I’ve heard). One too many ads featuring loving couples can be enough to throw a single person over the edge. The weeks building up to the holiday are normally a constant reminder that you have no one to celebrate love with. Depressing. But don’t fret, you can reclaim Valentine’s Day. We all can. No one ever said love was only romantic. There is a lot of amazing love to celebrate on Valentine’s Day. Whether it’s your Godson, best friends, or grandmother, pick a Valentine and share with them how much they mean to you by sending a Valentine package, making plans to go shopping (we suggest the Southport Antique Mall. We’ve heard good things), or craft special gifts using vintage Valentine cards. You could also make yourself feel better using retail therapy and buying something for the most special person in your life, you. Dear Dealers, We are hoping each of you had a memorable and happy holiday season! January went by quickly. Southport Antique Mall was at The Greater Indianapolis Garage Sale this January at the fairgrounds. We offered free item evaluations for guests and shoppers. This was our second year for this event. Last year was a huge success, but this year was even better. It created wonderful publicity for the store, we got a great deal of new exposure. We were featured in the all the advertising leading up to the event including frequently aired television commercials. Our own Krissy Haganman was featured promoting the event and the mall on three different morning news programs including IndyStyle. It was so much fun! During the event we evaluated items from over 75 guests and saw everything from a signed photo of Pres. Kennedy to a 1700's Stradivarius violin. We even saw a genuine Louis Vuitton purse that was purchased at the garage sale for only $10 and was evaluated at $500-$800! It was a great weekend for everyone. With the New Year in full swing, I am drawn to cleaning up and cleaning out! I love a fresh start! SAM guests always notice when we put in that little extra effort in our spaces and our sales certainly reflect that. So remember, dust, sweep and move those treasures around for a fresh look each time you are in. If you need a new perspective, we are always happy to help. And while you’re working, be sure to remember our shoppers with disabilities and leave those floors clear for easy navigation. Also power strips must be easy to access in order for us to turn on the lights and create the right “mood.” Please be mindful of old lamp wiring on chandeliers and lamps. We must take the upmost precaution when it comes to electricity so if you are not sure if your lamp is safe, please ask before plugging in. Thanks! With the weather gloomy and the holiday parties over, we can always be cheered up by visiting the store. Our little community is a real treasure and can certainly keep those winter blues at bay. We are so thankful to have each of you a part of our mall family and we always love to see your faces. Happy New Year, let’s make 2013 great! Blessings, Alissa We're lucky to have Sam working with us part-time while he is studying Political Science at the University of Indianapolis.
